Why YOURS?
In the video on this page, the people behind the statistics gives an insight into why we are pursuing road safety so fervently. The video was created by the FIA Foundation for the Decade of Action Launch 2011-2020 and encapsulates the road safety victims and the steps that need to be taken to reduce the amount of people being killed on the worlds' roads. In order to change the situation, young people face several challenges:
- Absence of a strong voice advocating for youth and road safety resulting in a lack of awareness and recognition of the vulnerable position of young people in traffic;
- A lack of youth participation/engagement of young people in decision making in road safety to increase effective measures, this will foster a next generation of leaders who are passionate about road safety;
- A fragmentized approach and divergences in strategies among youth and youth-led NGO's and their road safety initiatives. Youth road safety initiatives remain small-scaled and scattered;
- A lack of resources (financial, technical and human) and a need for capacity development of youth.
Young people require a range of tools and support to be safe of the road and
ensure their peers are safe too; YOURS acts to make this possible.
