YOURS participates in WHO Consultation on Adolescent Health

Last week, YOURS was invited by the World Health Organization's Adolescent Health Department to discuss a broad range of health issues facing youth. As part of a consultation on determinants for adolescent health, YOURS joined a range of youth leaders from sexual and reproductive health to substance abuse. The WHO consultation served as a consultation on the forthcoming report on Global Strategy for Women's, Children's, and Adolescents' Health as well as a youth scorecard on health determinants.

Brazilian Football says #SaveKidsLives - David Luiz becomes ambassador!

Exciting news comes from Brazil as Michelin and Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) supports the #SaveKidsLives Campaign and place it within a footballing context for mass support. The collaboration aims to bring in 100,000 Brazilian signatures in support of the Child Declaration for road safety, which will be delivered to the Brazilian government.

More recently, a2om teamed up with Michelin to develop a set of materials that gives parents the tools to sit down with their children and talk about key risk factors facing them on the road. Brasilia Declaration on Road Safety - open for input and recommendations

On 10 April 2014 the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on “Improving global road safety”. The resolution was sponsored by the Russian Federation and co-sponsored by dozens of other countries. Among key decisions, the resolution welcomed the offer of the Government of Brazil to host the 2nd Global High Level Conference on Road Safety in 2015. The conference will be held in Brasilia, Brazil, on 18-19 November 2015.

Second Global High-Level Conference on Road Safety in Brazil

In April 2014, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) welcomed the Brazilian Government's offer to host the Second Global High-Level Conference on Road Safety through a resolution entitled “Improving global road safety”. The Conference will take place in Brasilia, Brazil on 18-19 November 2015, during the week in which many groups around the world mark the annual World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. It is estimated that the Conference will bring together over 1,500 participants from 150 countries, among them Ministers of Health, Cities, Transport, and Interior; senior officials from United Nations agencies; representatives of civil society; and business leaders.

Dubai student filmmaker nominated for awards for road safety film

Charlie Cracknell’s film titled ‘Safe Driving Saves Lives’ was recently nominated for Best Picture and Best Editing at the THIMUN Qatar Northwestern Film Festival held annually in Doha, Qatar. The THIMUN Qatar Northwestern Film Festival attracts young film makers from around the world. The Festival serves as a platform for young people to create advocacy films on local or global issues.

Drink driving is a well documented cause with scientific backing on how alcohol impairs driving to a large extent. Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) is quite clear cut and now, drug driving is being given the same treatment in the UK. A new campaign by THINK! the road safety campaigning arm of the UK Department for Road Safety focuses on the effects of 'paranoia' on driving as well as the impairment effects of drug driving.
