The National Road Safety Week was observed in the first week of January every year all over the India to inculcate the culture of road safety amongst the citizens. Like other organizations, Forum for Prevention of Road Accidents (FPRA) observed the 21st National Road Safety Week 2010 in Orissa (India) from 1st January to 7th January, 2010 under the theme of "Life is Safe if Driving is Safe".
In India, every year more than one lakh (100.000) people die because of road accidents and the reason is quite clear: a lack of knowledge on road safety and driving sense. On the occasion National Road Safety Week, a Road Safety Awareness Drive was launched and a numbers of outreach activities were organized by Forum for Prevention of Road Accidents (FPRA) with sponsorship of EICHER Motors, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Society for Automotive Fitness & Environment (SAFE) and Regional Transport Authority, Cuttack. For example we organized:
- training workshops;
- painting competitions;
- eye testing camps;
- foot rallies;
- panel discussion on TV;
- distribution of hand outs;
- etc.
One of the key objectives of our safety programmes was to create awareness on issues related to road safety amongst students and general masses.
