On Thursday 21 March 2013, Road Safe Zimbabwe joined the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe & hundreds of school children and members of the public in a march across the city of Harare to spread road safety awareness over the impending Easter holidays.

The project was aimed at implementing at implementing a program aimed at the reduction of trauma on our road through the delivery of quality, evidence based road safety education programs among youth driving vehicles in Madurai City and students in educational institutions.

This project is aimed at educating the young people on road traffic concerns and how to deal with them. Its major focus is the primary schools and secondary schools.

This project is as an awareness project and it’s aimed at meeting the needs of the citizens by providing water to quench their ‘’Thirst on the Go’’ as well as enlightening them about road safety concerns. Its major focus is on the pedestrians in high pedestrian traffic areas.

IP Foundation launched its first international caliber public awareness campaign in 2007 in partnership with the Vietnam Helmet Wearing Coalition (VHWC), a group of private corporations, NGOs, multilateral and government partners dedicated to raising awareness of traffic safety.

The Road Safe Zimbabwe team, in conjunction with a local stand up comedian (Carl Joshua Ncube) held a pledge signing as part of the publicity for the on going campaign. We targeted the signing ceremony at local celebrities as they are the role models and have the most influence in our country.

STEER organised and facilitated a series of safe transport forums held with Year 10 students at local high schools. The forums incorporated a combination of theatre performances, activities and discussions focused on youth transport.

The S.A.M.E Academy is an acronym for safety, awareness, mentoring and education academy, based in the UK. The words are used to emphasize to our audience what we deem as important in regards to road safety. Founded in 2009, it has been designed to educate, young, novice and the next generation of drivers (14 - 21 year olds) around the importance of road safety. This innovative aspect of Drivers Edge UK aims to dramatically reduce the instances of road traffic accidents and driving related crimes in the UK within young people. Our methods have been formed based on our research as an organisation and we believe we have the most effective ways of engaging and interacting with young people and delivering the correct message.

A ‘walking group’ is a group of children who walk to school along an identified ‘safe’ route escorted by two adult volunteers, one of whom leads (the ‘driver’) and the other follows (the ‘conductor’). The adult volunteers are usually parents of children in the walking groups. They supervise the walking groups on a rostered basis. The ratio of adults to children is usually 1:8, so the walking groups contain around 16 children. Typically walking groups routes are 1,000-1,500 m long.

Road Safety Week was observed by PARDA in all the five blocks of the district from date-01.01.2011 to date- 07.01.2011 with the support of Regional Transport Office, Nuapada. The program was a great success with popular involvement and administrative support drawing unprecedented response from the people involved.

Motorcycles are an enjoyable, economical, and practical method of transportation in Nigeria. Sadly, motorcycle accidents result in thousands of injuries and deaths each year. Even the most experienced and careful rider is at the mercy of other motorists, and motorcycle accident victims often experience the most severe types of injuries as compared to other motor vehicle accidents. According to statistics a motorcyclist is 16 times more likely to be killed in an accident than an occupant of an automobile. Treating a motor cycle accident injury at the scene can be crucial. Proper first aid can save a life and prevent further injury. Injuries commonly sustained by riders and passengers are fractures of the femur, wrist and ankle fractures, head injuries, and severe internal bleeding. Giving Commercial motorcycle riders this knowledge will also help victims of other types of road accidents because motor cyclists are found on every road Nigeria.

Pappu Zebra, the Road Sense mascot, is an original media creation designed to promote road sense among community members through various media-based events and products. Especially appealing to school students, the multi-lingual Pappu Zebra Road Sense campaign has been officially adopted by several Government authorities across India.

Pappu the Road Sense Zebra, the popular road safety mascot, was formally welcomed to Orissa by Sri B. K. Sharma, Police Commissioner, Bhubaneshwar-Cuttack at the DAV School, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar on January 04, 2011, during the 22nd National Road Safety Week, witnessed by hundreds of cheering and excited school students, in the presence of Mrs. Ritu Arora, Addl. Commissioner of Police and Sri Himanshu Lal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneshwar. Campaign” in Orissa in making the roads safer for the coming generations. It is a bottom-up approach for inculcating and developing a sense of responsibility about various aspects of road safety.

“Forum for Prevention of Road Accidents”, India in association with “Road Peace”, UK observed the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on 21st November 2010 at Satabdi Bhawan, Cuttack (India).

Five Simple Road Safety Suggestions to save lives suggested by CJ Johnson in the work I undertake for road safety. These suggestions are more of an aspiration rather than project but we are considering ways to implement each suggestion into a project.

India tops global list on fatal road mishaps. It is estimated that nearly 120,000 persons die every year and 450,000 people are hospitalized due to road crashes in our country. Injuries to the head and neck are the main causes of death. Motorcycles and bicycles users sustain severe head injury and thus permanent disability. Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 mandates the use of helmets (which meet Bureau of Indian Standards requirements) by all drivers and pillion riders of two-wheelers.

Streets Ahead, is an interactive and age appropriate road safety presentation provided to primary school students and their teachers free of charge. Streets Ahead aims to educate students about pedestrian, passenger and bicycle safety resulting in increased general road safety awareness.

The National Road Safety Week was observed in the first week of January every year all over the India to inculcate the culture of road safety amongst the citizens. Like other organizations, Forum for Prevention of Road Accidents (FPRA) observed the 21st National Road Safety Week 2010 in Orissa (India) from 1st January to 7th January, 2010 under the theme of "Life is Safe if Driving is Safe".

The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) wished to raise awareness, increase knowledge and improve skills about the most significant issue facing children in the emirate - road injuries and deaths. So they contracted Educating Global to develop a road safety education component in the government-run Summer School 2010 programme.

The Earphone Campaign focusses on a rising trend in the United Kindom, listening to music while on the road mainly as a pedestrian but also on the road.

It was a road safety campaign by young people for young people

GYTSM is an annual event, occurring every May.

The aim of this action is to investigate the transport and driving behaviour of teenagers and youths in order to identify the factors that affect those behaviors and it is a part of my PhD topic as well.

By collecting accurate data, we estimate models that give insights for cut and tailored educational programs and campaigns about road safety. Responsible Young Drivers sends a team of youngsters to clubs, events, or other activities to educate their peers about the risks of alcohol and drugs on the road.
