Road Safety Department of Melaka, Malaysia (RSD)
Road Safety Department (Head Office) was established in 2004 through Warrant No.. K 78 dated 15 September 2004 issued by the Ministry of Finance, Malaysia. The last time, reorganize the department was in May 2006 through Warrant No.. 37 K dated May 11, 2006 in which PSD has approved the establishment of the State department with overall staffing by 98 positions and one position of Assistant Statistical Officer at the headquarters. On February 16, 2007, Warrant for 14 posts of drivers in the State department has been approved. The number of posts available at the department headquarters at present are 32 and State department is about 112.
Department is facing some serious challenges to implement the planned program and targets set under the 5 Year Plan. Within a year of establishment, the department has managed to reduce the road death rate increased by 4.2 deaths per 10,000 registered vehicles in 2005 to 3.95 deaths per 10,000 registered vehicles in 2006. In addition, the number of accidents involving minor injuries were reduced by 11.454 between 2005 and 2006 where in 2005 the number of accidents is of 31.429 and a 19.884 in the year 2006. The Department has developed a Road Safety Plan of Malaysia 2006-2010 and it was launched by Prime Minister after chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Road Safety on May 15, 2006.

Mission
Make Malaysia a country road safety level equivalent to a fully developed nation by 2010, namely: -
* 10 deaths per 100,000 population
* 2 deaths per 10,000 vehicles registered
* 10 deaths per one billion vehicle kilometers
The objective
As a "One Stop Agency" to monitor and coordinate road safety program in terms of Education, Enforcement, Engineering and Environment or 5E (Education, Enforcement, Engineering, Environment and Evaluation).
