We received lots of videos from young people from all over the world and we now have merged them together to create our awareness video! We would like to thank all participants for showing their commitment to making a change and keeping their peers safe on the road. The jury had a hard time selecting the best video, because there were so many good ones!  In the end they selected the participant who contributed with the best video(s), considering the theme ´visibility´ and road safety.

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) launch a new information campaign on road safety to coincide with the Basketball World Championship 2010, which will be held in Turkey from 28 August to 12 September.

We are very proud that our youth Taskforce member Ousman Conteh had the opportunity to publish a blog on road safety for young people on the BBC website. Topic: should talking on cellphones including handsfree be banned when driving? Let the world know what you think.

Over 1.8 million young people die every year. But an even larger number of youth engage in behaviours that jeopardize not only their current health, but often their health for years to come. The International Year of Youth, which begins today, underscores that health is a human right and an integral part of youth development.

The deadline has passed for the World Crossing Campaign. We have received many videos and YOURS would like to thank all participated road safety advocates for your great efforts. We are now in the stage editing the entries and merging them into one video. The video will contain young people from all continents crossing the street and revealing their road safety slogan.

Under the auspices of the European Commission the 3rd European Youth Forum for Road Safety was organized on the first and second of July 2010. More than 70 youth delegates from over 35 countries were brought together in Brussels to discuss road safety and to strengthen the European Youth Network. YOURS was honored to report on its activities and how the participants could join the road safety efforts made at a global level.

Since today YOURS officially starts to map the youth around the world online on an interactive platform: MINE! It will only take 5 minutes to register and after that you can easily add your road safety projects and sharing your experiences with other young people worldwide.

During the night of June 3, two youth-led organizations for road safety joined forces. TeamAlert (The Netherlands) and DUS (Belgium) have located several dangerous intersections in their countries. They marked these dangerous intersections with the use of balloons with the text: `BlackSpot, now focus!´.

Many youngsters from the entire European region will gather on 1 & 2 July in Brussels to participate in the European Youth Forum for Road Safety. They were selected because of their involvement in the road safety field and it will give them the opportunity to join forces to favor road safety among all youngsters and improve the exchange of good practices, experience, trainings and knowledge between Youth NGO’s located in all EU Member States and neighborhood.

The European youth Forum is organized by young people for young people with support from the European Commission.

During the Michelin Challenge Bibendum 120 experts participated in 7 Round Table sessions. Round table seven was about the public and private sector commitment and contribution to reducing work-related road traffic fatalities by 2020 and beyond. The session was chaired by Dr Margie Peden (World Health Organization). The main outcome was a roadmap contributing to the Action Plan for the Decade of Action.

The Canadian Road Safety Youth Committee (CRSYC) is pleased to announce the inaugural youth forum in conjunction with the Canadian Multidisciplinary Road Safety Conference (CMRSC) on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Last week Mr Aliou Oumarou (Niger), Mr Axl Druart (Belgium) and Mr Ousman Conteh (The Gambia) attended an important road safety conference in Dakar. One of the outcomes of the forum was the importance of promoting networks and consortiums of youth organizations, especially student and road safety professionals in education, to promote road safety. Therefore the youth delegates expressed their desire to mobilize resources to form a strong African youth network in the future. Also they would like to organize an African Youth Forum to discuss their concrete participation to the proclaimed decade of action and beyond.

(Geneva, Switzerland, and New York, NY, April 23, 2010) Sesame Workshop, the producers of the global educational brand, Sesame Street, has joined the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) in a move to contribute its educational media expertise to the worldwide effort to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities among children and families. The Global Road Safety Partnership is a partnership of business, civil society and governmental organizations dedicated to improving road safety conditions in low- and middle-income countries.

LASER International, Fleet Forum, in partnership with WAEMU, l’UNECA, the Center for Disease Control (USA), the Ministry of Telecommunications, Tics, Rail and Ground Transportation and Health Ministry are organizing the Regional African Road Safety Forum held in Dakar (SENEGAL) from May 4th to 5th 2010. Mr Ousman Conteh will represent the Gambia Youth Parliament and YOURS during this African Forum.

The Youth Committee for Road Safety in Canada has just launched their new website: www.youthroadsafety.ca. The CRSYC are supporters and founding members of YOURS since the beginning. We would like to congratulate the team for their great work and boundless energy in making the Canadians roads safe, keep it up! 

The National Youth Parliament and the Gambia Red Cross society signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday 17 March to promote road safety. Mr Ousman Conteh, member of the Youth Taskforce of YOURS and working for the National Youth Parliament of the Gambia updated us about this progress. He is leading the partnership between the Youth Paliament and the Red Cross in the Gambia in order to mobilize and inspire young people to take some of the responsibilities on their own shoulders. The partnership objectives are to build capacity, to advocate for young people and ensure resources for road safety projects. Below you can read his story:
